AI agents are moving from hype to operating model in financial services

ISO 20022 data and AI

Google Cloud’s AI Agent Trends 2026 report for financial services puts words on a shift many banks are already feeling:

“The decisive shift for the financial services industry is happening right now. That shift is agentic AI.”

What matters is how agents are expected to work:

“Agents are systems that combine the intelligence of advanced AI models with access to tools so they can take actions on your behalf, under your control.”

And crucially, why many initiatives stall without the right foundations:

“The real power comes from giving every employee agents grounded in the company’s own enterprise context, its internal systems, knowledge bases, customer data, and past work.”

That word, grounded, is doing a lot of work here.

In banking, one of the richest and most under-used grounding layers already exists: ISO 20022 transaction data, with its semantics, roles, identifiers, and lifecycle context.

Yet in many institutions, it remains confined to payments plumbing and compliance, while AI teams struggle with fragmented or de-contextualized data.

The gap is not agent frameworks. It is agent-ready financial reality.

If 2026 is really about moving from “search” to “solve”, then the winners will be the banks that treat ISO 20022 not as a format migration, but as a strategic data asset for reasoning, investigation, and decision-making. That is the premise behind TxAgent, and the reason TxFlow comes first.
